October in Queensland is Queensland Seniors Month and several months prior to October in 2023, Cheryl from Gayndah’s Anglican Church approached GAPPS suggesting she apply for some funding to run a “Fun with Ukuleles” day open to Gayndah’s seniors. Cheryl’s application to COTA, that is Council for the Ageing) was successful and the Fun with Ukuleles day was on its way. For GAPPS, that required being able to supply some ukuleles with the required dots on the finger board, (red for C chord, yellow for F chord and green for G chord) and preparing a number of simple two and three chord songs for patrons to learn.
As can be seen from the porster below, Cheryl and her helpers at the Anglican Church promised to put on great food and drink for the day, thus helping the day to go very well. By the afternoon, we were all able to play a couple of two and three chord songs like Achy Breaky Heart and Rock My Soul in the Bosom of Abraham. Many thanks to Cheryl for the work she did to make the day possible.
