GAPPS does Scootaville at RSL

Submitted by Dr Geoff Walden

For the third year in a row, GAPPS, in early September 2025, was involved with making the Scootaville visitors welcome in Gayndah. The local RSL provides accomodation for the18 visitors, providing food and sleeping facilities for the visitors. In the past, accommodation has been arranged for the pavillion in the showgrounds. This year, the RSL had to take responsibility for that since there was another function being held in the showgrounds. It wasn’t a great problem because there were only 18 participants in the Scootaville excursion this year so the RSL hall was very suitable for the group.

GAPPS got themselves set up ready for a start, immediately after the 6pm. We played from then until about 7.30. It all seemed to be very well received by the visitors and while most of them sat and talked, that is what one would expect to happen in such a circumstance. One of the visitors was particularly interested in what we were doing because most of the songs we were playing dated back to the 1950s/60s. In his younger days, he was a paino player and played many of the songs we played at dances when he lived in Tasmania.
